Engineer Of The Year 2017!
Rick Scholte (38) has been chosen as Engineer of the Year, 2017. This TU/e alumnus has developed a sound camera that converts sounds into images. Scholte received the prize at TU Delft, in the presence of Princesses Beatrix and Mabel.
The sound camera makes use of tiny microphones . These make sounds visible. This means the cause or source of an irritating sound can be found. For example, if the camera is pointed in the direction of Stratumseind, it can be determined which café is playing the loudest music.
Scholte is not the first former TU/e student to win this award. In 2009 it was given to Gérard Vroomen, with his design of an aerodynamic time trial bicycle.
